Reflection — Learning from Your Practice is a professional development course for UK-registered healthcare professionals. Reflective practice is a requirement of every UK regulator, yet most professionals have been told to reflect without ever being shown what good reflection looks like on the page.
This course fixes that. It teaches you to take any event in your practice and write a reflective account that demonstrates genuine insight, satisfies your appraiser, and stands up to scrutiny if it is ever needed in a formal process. Everything is taught from the ground up, so you need no prior knowledge to get full value.

Do I need to do another course first?
No. This course is completely self-contained. It teaches reflective practice from the ground up, including the four pillars of insight that regulators assess, so you need no prior knowledge or any other course to get full value.
If you want to go deeper afterwards, the Insight and Remediation courses in the same series build on themes introduced here, but neither is required.
Does this help if I'm under investigation?
Yes. A credible reflective account is one of the most important documents in any fitness to practise process. This course teaches you to write one that demonstrates genuine insight, with a full module on reflection in formal proceedings and a complete annotated example.
No course can guarantee any regulatory outcome. If you are subject to a formal process, also seek advice from your defence organisation, trade union, or solicitor before submitting any document.
What framework does it teach?
The Gibbs Reflective Cycle, the framework most widely recognised by UK appraisers and regulators. The course works through all six stages in depth with a fully annotated worked example, and explains when alternative frameworks like Driscoll's might suit better.
Is there a real assessment?
Yes, a genuine one. Each module includes knowledge checks, and the course ends with a 15-question final assessment you must pass at 80% to receive your certificate. Your certificate reflects assessed learning, not attendance.
How long does it take?
Approximately 2 hours, worth 2 CPD hours. Entirely self-paced, so you can stop at any point and return later. Your progress is saved throughout.
Which regulator is this for?
All eight UK healthcare regulators: GMC, NMC, GDC, GPhC, HCPC, GOC, GCC, and GOsC. The course is built around the standards all eight share and the nine-regulator joint statement on reflective practice, with examples drawn from a range of professions.
