Every CrownEthics course goes through a structured development and review process before it reaches you. This page explains exactly how that works — because if you are going to rely on a course for your professional development, you deserve to know how it was made.
Our Course Development Process
We follow a four-stage process for every course we publish. No course is made available until all four stages are complete.
Research and scoping
Each course begins with a research phase grounded in current UK regulatory guidance, published professional standards, and the real situations healthcare professionals face. We identify specific learning objectives before any content is written.
Content writing by specialists
Course content is researched and written by specialists with knowledge of UK healthcare regulation and the frameworks that govern professional conduct. We do not use generic compliance content templates. Every course is written from the ground up for its specific topic and audience.
Medical review and approval
Before publication, every course is reviewed in full by a medically qualified reviewer (MBBS). The reviewer reads the complete course content, checks clinical and regulatory accuracy, and must formally approve the course before it is published. Where the reviewer identifies inaccuracies or gaps, the content is amended and re-reviewed. This is not a nominal process.
Assessment and certification review
Quiz questions and the final assessment are reviewed to ensure they test the stated learning objectives accurately. Correct answers and explanations are verified against the course content and source material before publication.

Learning Standards
Every course is built to consistent educational standards, regardless of topic.
Clear learning objectives
Every course publishes its learning objectives before purchase. Objectives define exactly what a learner will be able to understand or do after completing the course.
Progressive content structure
Content is sequenced to build understanding progressively, from foundational concepts to applied knowledge. Learners are not expected to understand advanced concepts without the groundwork.
Real-world application
Abstract principles are grounded in realistic scenarios, case vignettes, and before-and-after examples drawn from real professional situations. Theory is always tied to practice.
Formative knowledge checks
Knowledge checks after each topic allow learners to test their understanding before moving on. These are formative — they support learning, not assessment for certification.
Summative final assessment
Every course includes a final assessment that must be passed to receive a certificate. Assessment questions test the stated learning objectives. Pass marks and question counts are stated on every course page.
Honest scope and disclaimers
Every course is clear about its educational scope and limitations. We do not overclaim what courses can achieve. Regulatory disclaimers are present throughout all content.
Medical Review
Every CrownEthics course is reviewed and approved by a medically qualified doctor (MBBS) before publication. This is a substantive review — not a rubber stamp.
The reviewing doctor reads the complete course content in full and is asked to confirm:
- Clinical and regulatory content is accurate and current
- The course does not contain misleading information about regulatory processes
- Advice and guidance aligns with current UK professional standards
- The educational approach is appropriate for the intended audience
- The course does not overclaim its purpose or likely outcomes
Where the reviewer identifies inaccuracies or gaps, the course is returned to the writing team for amendment and re-reviewed before publication.
The reviewer's name and credentials appear on the certificate of completion issued to every learner who passes the course.
Why medical review matters
Our courses are used by professionals who may be preparing for regulatory proceedings, appraisal, revalidation, or responding to a formal concern. Accuracy is not optional in this context.
A course that contains incorrect regulatory information could give a learner false confidence or mislead them about what regulators actually assess. Medical review is our primary safeguard against this.

Ongoing Review and Currency
Publishing a course is not the end of our quality process. We are committed to keeping content accurate and up to date as regulatory guidance and professional standards evolve.
Our review cycle includes:
- Content accuracy check — verifying that referenced guidance, legislation, and regulatory frameworks remain current
- Medical reviewer sign-off — updated courses are re-reviewed and re-approved before re-publication
- Assessment review — quiz questions and answers are reviewed to ensure continued accuracy
- Learner feedback review — complaints and feedback from learners are incorporated where they identify genuine content issues
Where a substantive error is identified in a published course, we will correct it promptly and notify affected learners by email.
Certificate Standards
The CrownEthics certificate of completion is issued automatically on passing the final assessment. It is designed to be suitable for inclusion in a professional development portfolio and to support evidence of learning at appraisal and revalidation.
Every certificate includes:
- The learner's full name
- The course title and a brief course description
- The date of completion
- The duration of learning (CPD hours)
- A unique certificate reference number
- The name and credentials of the medical reviewer
- The CrownEthics name and branding
