Professionalism & Professional Standards for Nurses & Midwives
A 2.5-hour course built around the standing conduct and discipline The Code actually asks of you, competence and safe delegation, workplace culture and raising concerns, everyday conduct and records, online conduct, and wellbeing as a professional duty, not ethics content stretched to cover everything.

Course Content
Is this you?
We wrote this for three kinds of nurse or midwife. Most people reading this are at least one of them.
A workplace culture, conduct, or delegation situation feels genuinely unclear.
You're not sure how much responsibility to hand a healthcare assistant, or something about your team's culture feels off and you're not sure how to name it, let alone raise it properly.
Revalidation is coming and your CPD leans too heavily on clinical topics.
Most CPD covers clinical skills or ethics-adjacent content, leaving competence, culture, and everyday conduct comparatively under-addressed, even though these are exactly the areas that show up most often in real fitness to practise cases.
You want the standing discipline side of The Code, not the dilemma-reasoning side.
Competence, safe delegation, workplace culture, everyday conduct, online conduct, wellbeing. This course is built specifically around the parts of The Code that are about consistent discipline, not weighing competing values.
The Code has four themes. This course covers two of them properly.
Professionalism and Ethics are designed as a pair, covering The Code fully between them without repeating each other. Here's exactly where each one sits.

Course description
A 2.5-hour course on professional discipline for NMC-registered nurses and midwives, built around The Code (NMC, 2018). It moves from competence, currency, and safe delegation, through workplace culture, discrimination, and raising concerns, everyday conduct and records as a discipline, online conduct and wellbeing, to leadership and a full worked case drawing the whole course together.
Why it's relevant
Nursing CPD leans heavily toward clinical skills and ethics-adjacent content, leaving competence, delegation, culture, and everyday conduct comparatively under-addressed, even though these are exactly the areas that show up most often in real fitness to practise cases. This course exists specifically to close that gap.
How it improves your practice
You'll finish able to recognise a genuine competence gap and delegate safely to healthcare assistants and students, build and protect a respectful team culture, raise a concern about a colleague or system through the right channel, meet the everyday conduct standard including online, and recognise your own wellbeing as a professional responsibility, not a private matter.
What it covers
The course runs across five modules of unequal length:
- Competence, currency, safe delegation to healthcare assistants and students, and safe staffing
- Workplace culture, tackling discrimination, raising a concern properly, and fair leadership
- The everyday conduct standard, workplace boundaries with colleagues, and records as a discipline of habit
- Professional conduct online and wellbeing as a professional duty, including supporting colleagues under pressure
- Leading and supervising a team, where conduct and ethics genuinely overlap, and a full worked case
Who it's for
Any nurse or midwife registered with the NMC, at any career stage, in any setting, ward-based, community, mental health, learning disability, or midwifery. Especially relevant if you supervise students or healthcare assistants. Part of the wider CrownEthics library of CPD courses for UK healthcare professionals.
